Description
Course Overview
This 10-week training group is designed for actors looking to develop a sustained and committed practice over time.
Drawing on foundational exercises influenced by practitioners such as Sanford Meisner and Uta Hagen, the work focuses on developing emotional responsiveness, attention, and truthful behaviour under imaginary circumstances.
Over the course of the training, we will move from fundamental partner-based exercises into working with text, building towards an informal sharing of scenes during the final week – participants are welcome to invite friends and peers to the sharing.
The emphasis throughout is on practice — developing the actor’s ability to work instinctively, responsively, and without unnecessary construction.
How the Training Works
This is a closed group that works together across 10 weeks.
Because the work builds cumulatively, the structure allows for a deeper level of engagement than is possible in drop-in classes. Actors are encouraged to remain present, take risks, and develop their work over time within a consistent ensemble.
Sessions will involve:
• Partner-based exercises developing listening and responsiveness
• Improvisational structures that strengthen impulse and attention
• Gradual introduction of text through action and behaviour
• Ongoing reflection as the work develops
The process moves step by step, allowing actors to develop the capacity to stay with truthful impulses without forcing or denying them.
